Job Posting: Care Services Supervisor

The Red Deer Food Bank is seeking a Care Services Supervisor to join the organisation in the new year.

The Red Deer Food Bank supports individuals and families in the community by providing access to nutritious food and healthy living. In addition, it operates a diverse range of social enterprise activities that support its mission of relieving hunger today, preventing hunger tomorrow.

This role will lead new and existing services offered to the Food Bank's clients. From leading client intake to supervising a new shopping model of food distribution, to developing programs to enhance the wraparound Care Services, this role will ensure a positive and caring client experience.

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have proven social services and management experience. In addition to being an excellent communicator, you should also demonstrate outstanding leadership and organisational abilities.


Key Duties:

  • Meet with clients to identify needs, set goals, develop and implement personalised care plans, and assess eligibility for food assistance.

  • Provide guidance and referrals to community resources such as employment, housing, health care, and financial support.

  • Advocate for clients when engaging with service providers and agencies.

  • Assist clients with applications for benefits, programs, services, and support system navigation.

  • Handle complex issues and client complaints, ensuring effective resolution.

  • Create and implement workshops, programs, and outreach events as needed.

  • Monitor and ensure food quality, safe food handling, and inventory flow in the grocery store.

  • Create and maintain welcoming spaces that are safe and clean.

  • Oversee daily operations of the Care Services area, ensuring staff and volunteers are scheduled as needed.

  • Supervise staff and volunteers in their daily activities in the Care Services areas.

  • Communicate needs between Care Services, the Warehouse, and Food Production.

  • Model and ensure ethical practice, confidentiality, and respect in all client interactions.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation using computer and web-based programs, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in social sciences, health, human services, or a related field. Registration with a relevant professional body would be highly regarded. A combination of education and work experience is preferable.

Experience and Capabilities:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in case management, systems navigation, and community support services, preferably in the Central Alberta region.

  • 2 to 3 years of leadership experience supervising a diverse team of employees and/or volunteers.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and maintain trusting, caring, non-judgmental and supportive relationships with clients, staff, and volunteers.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills, with the ability to deal with a wide range of people.

  • Strong conflict resolution skills coupled with empathy and compassion and the ability to maintain composure under pressure.

  • Must be proficient in the use of a range of computer and web-based programs. i.e. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Link2Feed.

  • Safe Food Handling certification or a willingness to obtain upon hiring.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
