We Are More Than a Food Bank

At Red Deer Food Bank, we believe no one should have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. We provide emergency food support, food recovery programs, fresh food production, nutrition education, and community food security initiatives across Red Deer and Central Alberta.

Our mission is simple: to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.

Our vision is Food for All.

Every day, we work alongside individuals, families, seniors, children, and community partners to ensure people have access to nutritious food when they need it most. While emergency food support remains an important part of what we do, our work extends far beyond traditional food bank services.

Through our Food Hub, families can shop in a grocery store style environment and choose foods that best meet their household needs, cultural preferences, dietary requirements, and family size. This choice based approach creates a more dignified and personalized experience while helping reduce food waste.

Our free Pantry Program provides open access to surplus bread, produce, snacks, and other rescued food items, helping thousands of people supplement their groceries each year while keeping good food out of the landfill.

Social Enterprise for Sustainable Impact

Food security is not only about responding to hunger today. It is also about building long-term solutions for tomorrow.

The Red Deer Food Bank is committed to creating long-term solutions to food insecurity through innovative social enterprises that generate both revenue and community impact.

Garden 49 combines food production, education, and environmental stewardship. Through our greenhouse, hydroponic growing systems, indoor growing spaces, mushroom production, and community gardens, we produce fresh, nutritious food for the Food Hub while creating opportunities for education, skill development, and community engagement. Garden 49 helps increase access to healthy food, strengthens local food security, reduces food miles, and demonstrates sustainable growing practices that can be replicated throughout the community.

Kitchen 49 is our social enterprise culinary program that generates revenue to support the Red Deer Food Bank's mission. Through catering services, food truck operations, cooking classes, food preparation services, and community programming, Kitchen 49 creates opportunities for employment training, food skills development, and community connection. Revenue generated through Kitchen 49 is reinvested into food bank programs and services, helping reduce reliance on fundraising while supporting our ability to meet growing community needs.

Together, Garden 49 and Kitchen 49 demonstrate how innovative social enterprises can create lasting community impact by generating sustainable revenue, reducing food insecurity, increasing access to fresh food, building valuable skills, and strengthening the local food system.

Together, these programs help us address immediate hunger while investing in sustainable solutions that build healthier people, stronger communities, and a more resilient food system.

Because food security is about more than food, it is about dignity, health, connection, and hope.

Our Community Makes This Possible

The Red Deer Food Bank exists because of the generosity, compassion, and commitment of our community. Every day, individuals, families, businesses, organizations, and community groups come together to ensure that no one in Central Alberta faces hunger alone.

Our work is supported by donors, volunteers, service clubs, churches, food producers, farmers, grocery stores, local businesses, foundations, schools, community organizations, and countless individuals who believe that everyone deserves access to nutritious food.

Some people give food. Some give financial support. Some volunteer their time and talents. Others organize food drives, host fundraising events, sponsor programs, share our message, grow fresh produce, rescue surplus food, or advocate for food security in our community. Every contribution, large or small, helps create a stronger, healthier, and more caring Central Alberta.

The impact of this support extends far beyond our walls. It allows us to provide emergency food assistance, operate our Food Hub and Pantry Program, rescue and redistribute surplus food, grow fresh produce through Garden 49, offer community food programming through Kitchen 49, and invest in long term solutions that address the root causes of food insecurity.

Every meal served, every pound of food rescued, every dollar donated, and every volunteer hour contributed represents a shared commitment to our vision of Food for All.

The Red Deer Food Bank is more than a charitable organization, it is a community movement powered by people who care about their neighbors and believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Together, we are relieving hunger today, preventing hunger tomorrow, and building a stronger Central Alberta for generations to come.
